React Developer rates in the top 10 hiring markets
Mid-level hourly rate, Sep, 2026. Every figure is the United States band scaled by that market's published compensation ratio. Three of the ten have a country median published by name and three carry the rates we quote and place at in that market; the rest carry their region's ratio and are marked as such.

- United States $89-$140/hr
- A mid-level React developer in the United States costs $89 to $140 an hour, which is $14,240 to $22,400 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $70 to $108 and senior rates $115 to $178. The benchmark every other market on this list is measured against, and the only one priced from a published US wage median rather than a ratio.
- Canada $89-$140/hr
- A mid-level React developer in Canada costs $89 to $140 an hour, which is $14,240 to $22,400 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $70 to $108 and senior rates $115 to $178. Time zone overlap rather than rate is the reason teams choose it: it prices level with the United States, is usually billed in USD, and the saving against a US hire is small.
- United Kingdom $55-$87/hr
- A mid-level React developer in the United Kingdom costs $55 to $87 an hour, which is $8,800 to $13,920 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $43 to $67 and senior rates $71 to $110. The closest large market to US rates anywhere, at a published full-stack median of 0.62x the US figure, the highest ratio here except Canada.
- Germany $49-$77/hr
- A mid-level React developer in Germany costs $49 to $77 an hour, which is $7,840 to $12,320 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $39 to $59 and senior rates $63 to $98. Deep enterprise and industrial software supply, at a published full-stack median of 0.55x the US figure, concentrated around Berlin and Munich.
- Sweden $76-$120/hr
- A mid-level React developer in Sweden costs $76 to $120 an hour, which is $12,160 to $19,200 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $60 to $93 and senior rates $99 to $153. The largest Nordic talent market, concentrated around Stockholm, with full overlap with the European working day and consistently high English proficiency.
- Denmark $76-$120/hr
- A mid-level React developer in Denmark costs $76 to $120 an hour, which is $12,160 to $19,200 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $60 to $93 and senior rates $99 to $153. A small, high-cost Nordic market with deep product and design supply, and the same European working-day overlap as Sweden.
- Brazil $46-$73/hr
- A mid-level React developer in Brazil costs $46 to $73 an hour, which is $7,360 to $11,680 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $36 to $56 and senior rates $60 to $92. The largest talent market in Latin America and the closest time zone match for US East Coast teams.
- Mexico $46-$73/hr
- A mid-level React developer in Mexico costs $46 to $73 an hour, which is $7,360 to $11,680 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $36 to $56 and senior rates $60 to $92. Nearshore for the United States, with same-day overlap across every US time zone and supply growing faster than Brazil's.
- Vietnam $29-$71/hr
- A mid-level React developer in Vietnam costs $29 to $71 an hour, which is $4,640 to $11,360 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $19 to $31 and senior rates $42 to $99. The widest gap to US rates of the Southeast Asian markets, though overlap with US hours requires a shifted schedule.
- Philippines $23-$60/hr
- A mid-level React developer in the Philippines costs $23 to $60 an hour, which is $3,680 to $9,600 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $17 to $29 and senior rates $33 to $83. The highest English proficiency in Southeast Asia, and night-shift working for US overlap is well established.
- Poland $52-$83/hr
- A mid-level React developer in Poland costs $52 to $83 an hour, which is $8,320 to $13,280 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $41 to $64 and senior rates $68 to $105. The largest and most established talent market in Eastern Europe, with full overlap with the UK and European working day.
- India $21-$54/hr
- A mid-level React developer in India costs $21 to $54 an hour, which is $3,360 to $8,640 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $15 to $25 and senior rates $31 to $75. Stack Overflow's India medians run from 0.10x the US figure to 0.26x depending on the role read, so a single India rate means very little on its own.
Hiring Costs by Platforms and Marketplaces

What really impacts the cost?
Five levers move a React developer rate more than anything else, and specialisation is measurable against a published baseline.

What sets the rate for React Developers
React is the most heavily supplied front-end skill in the world, and its rate reflects that: the front-end band sits below full-stack despite React work often being the visible half of a product. The important distinction on this page is React versus React Native. They share a name and a mental model but not a labour market, and React Native prices in the mobile band, roughly 8 to 10% higher.
Pushes the rate up
- React Native, which is priced as mobile rather than front-end. Store submission, device testing and native module work are why.
- Performance and accessibility remediation. Both are specialist work inside React and neither is widely supplied.
Pulls the rate down
- Component build-out against finished designs. The single most competitively supplied engagement type in this band.
- Having a design system already in place. It removes the judgement calls that make front-end estimates unreliable.
Estimated Cost by Project Scope
Whole-project cost at the mid-level United States rate of $89 to $140 an hour. The hour ranges are estimates and the scope, not the rate, is what usually moves a quote.
Marketing site or design build
$13,000 – $35,000
150 to 250 hours
static pages, a CMS hookup, responsive implementation
Full application front end
$36,000 – $84,000
400 to 600 hours
state management, authenticated views, a component library, accessibility work
Design system and complex app
$80,000 – $210,000+
900 to 1500 hours
a documented design system, data-heavy views, animation, performance budgets
Freelancer or employee?
The rates above are contractor rates: you pay for hours worked and nothing else. An employee costs a salary plus statutory employer contributions, and the comparison is not the one most people assume, because a freelancer at $50 an hour working full time is not cheaper than a $50-an-hour salaried equivalent once you account for the hours you do not buy.
If you are weighing a permanent hire in a specific market instead, the salary rate cards price employment by country and role, with local currency bands and employer costs.
Questions buyers ask
How much does it cost to hire a React developer in the United States?
A mid-level freelance React developer in the United States costs $89 to $140 an hour, which is $14,240 to $22,400 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $70 to $108 and senior rates $115 to $178. The range is derived from a published US employee median of $145,000 a year, loaded with the payroll, insurance and leave costs a contractor carries themselves rather than an employer.
What is the per hour rate of a React developer?
It depends almost entirely on where they are. A mid-level React developer bills $89 to $140 an hour in the United States, $89 to $140 in Canada, and $21 to $54 in India, the cheapest of the ten markets on this page. Seniority moves the rate about 2.5x from junior to staff level, following the wage distribution the US Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes for software developers.
How much does a freelance React developer cost per month?
At 160 billable hours, a mid-level React developer costs $14,240 to $22,400 a month in the United States and $3,360 to $8,640 a month in India. Freelance engagements are billed on hours worked, so a month with fewer billable hours costs proportionally less, which is the main way this differs from a salary.
Is it cheaper to hire a React developer freelance, in-house or through an agency?
At mid-level in the United States a freelancer bills $89 to $140 an hour, an employee costs $100 to $155 once recruiting, equipment and management are loaded on, and an agency bills $170 to $285, which is 1.5 to 2.5 times the individual rate for a project manager and cover if someone leaves. Freelance wins on short or uncertain scope because you can stop paying. Employment wins once the work outlasts a year.
Which platform is cheapest for hiring React developers?
On fees, Arc charges nothing on hourly work and Upwork takes 3% to 10%, the lowest of the channels that publish anything; Toptal publishes none. On rates, Upwork spans $25 to $150 an hour and Fiverr $25 to $100, against $70 to $200 on a vetted network. The channel is the smallest lever you have: fees span 0% to 25%, while on this page geography moves the same hour about 4.2x and seniority about 2.6x.
Should I pay more for a React developer than a general front-end developer?
No. React is the default rather than a specialisation now, and paying a premium purely for the framework name is not supported by the market. Pay a premium for performance work, accessibility remediation or design-system experience, which are genuinely scarce and are what separates the top of this band from the middle. A candidate whose differentiator is React itself is describing the baseline.
Is React Native cheaper than hiring separate iOS and Android developers?
Per hour, substantially, because you are buying one developer rather than two. Across a full product it depends on how much native work you end up needing. Cross-platform saves most on apps that are largely screens and API calls, and least on anything leaning on device hardware, background processing or platform-specific design. Budget for a native specialist on call either way.
