MLOps Engineer rates in the top 10 hiring markets
Mid-level hourly rate, Sep, 2026. Every figure is the United States band scaled by that market's published compensation ratio. Three of the ten have a country median published by name and three carry the rates we quote and place at in that market; the rest carry their region's ratio and are marked as such.

- United States $119-$185/hr
- A mid-level MLOps engineer in the United States costs $119 to $185 an hour, which is $19,040 to $29,600 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $95 to $142 and senior rates $155 to $235. The benchmark every other market on this list is measured against, and the only one priced from a published US wage median rather than a ratio.
- Canada $119-$185/hr
- A mid-level MLOps engineer in Canada costs $119 to $185 an hour, which is $19,040 to $29,600 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $95 to $142 and senior rates $155 to $235. Time zone overlap rather than rate is the reason teams choose it: it prices level with the United States, is usually billed in USD, and the saving against a US hire is small.
- United Kingdom $74-$115/hr
- A mid-level MLOps engineer in the United Kingdom costs $74 to $115 an hour, which is $11,840 to $18,400 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $59 to $88 and senior rates $96 to $146. The closest large market to US rates anywhere, at a published full-stack median of 0.62x the US figure, the highest ratio here except Canada.
- Germany $66-$102/hr
- A mid-level MLOps engineer in Germany costs $66 to $102 an hour, which is $10,560 to $16,320 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $52 to $78 and senior rates $85 to $129. Deep enterprise and industrial software supply, at a published full-stack median of 0.55x the US figure, concentrated around Berlin and Munich.
- Sweden $103-$159/hr
- A mid-level MLOps engineer in Sweden costs $103 to $159 an hour, which is $16,480 to $25,440 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $81 to $123 and senior rates $133 to $202. The largest Nordic talent market, concentrated around Stockholm, with full overlap with the European working day and consistently high English proficiency.
- Denmark $103-$159/hr
- A mid-level MLOps engineer in Denmark costs $103 to $159 an hour, which is $16,480 to $25,440 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $81 to $123 and senior rates $133 to $202. A small, high-cost Nordic market with deep product and design supply, and the same European working-day overlap as Sweden.
- Brazil $62-$96/hr
- A mid-level MLOps engineer in Brazil costs $62 to $96 an hour, which is $9,920 to $15,360 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $49 to $74 and senior rates $81 to $122. The largest talent market in Latin America and the closest time zone match for US East Coast teams.
- Mexico $62-$96/hr
- A mid-level MLOps engineer in Mexico costs $62 to $96 an hour, which is $9,920 to $15,360 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $49 to $74 and senior rates $81 to $122. Nearshore for the United States, with same-day overlap across every US time zone and supply growing faster than Brazil's.
- Vietnam $39-$94/hr
- A mid-level MLOps engineer in Vietnam costs $39 to $94 an hour, which is $6,240 to $15,040 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $25 to $42 and senior rates $56 to $132. The widest gap to US rates of the Southeast Asian markets, though overlap with US hours requires a shifted schedule.
- Philippines $31-$80/hr
- A mid-level MLOps engineer in the Philippines costs $31 to $80 an hour, which is $4,960 to $12,800 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $22 to $39 and senior rates $44 to $111. The highest English proficiency in Southeast Asia, and night-shift working for US overlap is well established.
- Poland $70-$109/hr
- A mid-level MLOps engineer in Poland costs $70 to $109 an hour, which is $11,200 to $17,440 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $56 to $84 and senior rates $91 to $139. The largest and most established talent market in Eastern Europe, with full overlap with the UK and European working day.
- India $28-$72/hr

What sets the rate for MLOps Engineers
MLOps prices in the AI band rather than the application band, and the reason is worth stating plainly: the failure modes are model failure modes seen from production. A model that silently degrades as its inputs drift is not a deployment problem with a machine learning flavour, it is a machine learning problem that only shows up in operations. Hiring a strong platform engineer who has not seen that pattern is the most common and most expensive mistake in this area.
Pushes the rate up
- Regulated or audited environments where model lineage and reproducibility have to be demonstrable rather than merely good practice.
- Real-time serving with latency budgets, which constrains architecture far more than batch scoring does.
Pulls the rate down
- Batch scoring on a schedule, where a slow run is an inconvenience rather than an incident.
- A managed platform that already handles registry, serving and monitoring.
Estimated Cost by Project Scope
Whole-project cost at the mid-level United States rate of $119 to $185 an hour. The hour ranges are estimates and the scope, not the rate, is what usually moves a quote.

$18,000 – $46,000
150 to 250 hours
an off-the-shelf model, prompt or fine-tune work, a thin interface
Production model and integration

900 to 1500 hours
custom training, retrieval infrastructure, guardrails, human review, scale
Freelancer or employee?
The rates above are contractor rates: you pay for hours worked and nothing else. An employee costs a salary plus statutory employer contributions, and the comparison is not the one most people assume, because a freelancer at $50 an hour working full time is not cheaper than a $50-an-hour salaried equivalent once you account for the hours you do not buy.
If you are weighing a permanent hire in a specific market instead, the salary rate cards price employment by country and role, with local currency bands and employer costs.
Questions buyers ask
How much does it cost to hire a MLOps engineer in the United States?
A mid-level freelance MLOps engineer in the United States costs $119 to $185 an hour, which is $19,040 to $29,600 a month at 160 billable hours. Junior rates run $95 to $142 and senior rates $155 to $235. The range is derived from a published US employee median of $189,500 a year, loaded with the payroll, insurance and leave costs a contractor carries themselves rather than an employer.
What is the per hour rate of a MLOps engineer?
It depends almost entirely on where they are. A mid-level MLOps engineer bills $119 to $185 an hour in the United States, $119 to $185 in Canada, and $28 to $72 in India, the cheapest of the ten markets on this page. Seniority moves the rate about 2.5x from junior to staff level, following the wage distribution the US Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes for software developers.
How much does a freelance MLOps engineer cost per month?
At 160 billable hours, a mid-level MLOps engineer costs $19,040 to $29,600 a month in the United States and $4,480 to $11,520 a month in India. Freelance engagements are billed on hours worked, so a month with fewer billable hours costs proportionally less, which is the main way this differs from a salary.
Is it cheaper to hire a MLOps engineer freelance, in-house or through an agency?
At mid-level in the United States a freelancer bills $119 to $185 an hour, an employee costs $130 to $205 once recruiting, equipment and management are loaded on, and an agency bills $230 to $380, which is 1.5 to 2.5 times the individual rate for a project manager and cover if someone leaves. Freelance wins on short or uncertain scope because you can stop paying. Employment wins once the work outlasts a year.
Which platform is cheapest for hiring MLOps engineers?
On fees, Arc charges nothing on hourly work and Upwork takes 3% to 10%, the lowest of the channels that publish anything; Toptal publishes none. On rates, Upwork spans $25 to $150 an hour and Fiverr $25 to $100, against $70 to $200 on a vetted network. The channel is the smallest lever you have: fees span 0% to 25%, while on this page geography moves the same hour about 4.3x and seniority about 2.6x.
Can our DevOps engineer do MLOps?
Partly, and the gap is the expensive part. Containers, pipelines and infrastructure transfer directly. What does not is the model-specific failure surface: training and serving skew, data drift, evaluation that has to run continuously rather than at release. Those look like nothing is wrong right up until the predictions are quietly worthless, which is not a pattern ordinary operations experience teaches.
When do we actually need this role?
When a model in production is making decisions someone will ask about. One model retrained by hand every few months does not need a dedicated hire. Several models, automated retraining, or any requirement to explain why a past decision was made, does. The trigger is usually the first time nobody can reconstruct which version produced a given output.
