A Complete Guide to Hiring Angular Developers

Contents (8 sections)

TL;DR: Angular developers from Asia earn $800-$3,500 a month in Indonesia and $1,800-$7,500 in Vietnam working for international clients. The median US software developer earns $135,980 a year (BLS, May 2025). We shortlist 6-8 candidates in 24 hours.

Angular v22, released 3 June 2026, made OnPush the default change detection strategy and moved Angular to one major release a year. The codebase you hand a new Angular developer sits on one side of that change, so the interview has to find out which side they know.

Key takeaways

  • Angular versions 2 to 19 no longer receive patches, and version 20 leaves long-term support on 28 November 2026.
  • In Stack Overflow's 2025 survey, 7.5% of professional developers still used AngularJS, whose support ended in January 2022.
  • A 9:00 am standup in New York falls at 9:00 pm in Manila, so overlap depends on an agreed late shift.
  • Code from an independent contractor stays theirs until they sign a written assignment.

What Angular Developers Earn Working for International Clients in Asia

Vietnam's rate card carries the widest range of the five markets, from $1,800 to $7,500 a month, and its top figure is more than double Indonesia's $3,500. India and the Philippines publish open-topped ranges, so senior offers there can run past the printed number.

Market Monthly pay working for international clients (USD)
Indonesia $800-$3,500
Philippines $1,520-$4,070+
India $1,780-$6,590+
Vietnam $1,800-$7,500
Malaysia $2,000-$4,500

Monthly pay for Angular Developers working for international clients, by market

Monthly ranges from the Remote (Working for International Clients) figures on our rate cards for Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Vietnam and Malaysia, converted at ExchangeRate-API mid-market rates for 14 September 2026.

Each figure is what Angular developers in that market earn working directly for foreign companies, before any employer or platform costs. The Philippine card is set in pesos and the Indian card in rupees; the Indonesian, Vietnamese and Malaysian cards publish US dollars.

Second Talent charges one monthly fee that bundles salary, payroll taxes, statutory contributions and our service fee, set out on our pricing page. If you are weighing a freelancer instead, our Angular cost-to-hire page lists US freelance hourly rates.

US Pay Benchmark for Angular Developers

O*NET lists "Application Developer" among the reported job titles for Software Developers (15-1252), and an Angular hire building dashboards or internal tools does that job, so Software Developers is the benchmark. The table adds Web Developers (15-1254) for a hire who builds websites.

BLS OEWS, May 2025, national Software Developers (15-1252) Web Developers (15-1254)
10th percentile, monthly $6,870 $4,010
25th percentile, monthly $8,770 $5,350
Median, monthly $11,330 $7,720
75th percentile, monthly $14,330 $10,520
90th percentile, monthly $17,890 $13,520

Monthly figures are the annual wages on the BLS occupation profiles for 15-1252 and 15-1254 divided by 12, rounded to the nearest $10. The annual medians are $135,980 and $92,650.

Salary is only part of the US cost. In the BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation release for June 2026, wages and salaries made up 68.5% of employer compensation costs for full-time private industry workers, and benefits the other 31.5%.

Time Zone Overlap with ET, CT and PT

None of the Asian cities below change their clocks. US clocks stay on daylight saving time from 8 March to 1 November 2026, so the gap to New York is one hour shorter now than it will be in December.

Engineer's city UTC offset 9:00 am ET (EDT) 9:00 am CT (CDT) 9:00 am PT (PDT)
Manila, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei UTC+8 9:00 pm 10:00 pm 12:00 midnight
Ho Chi Minh City, Jakarta, Bangkok UTC+7 8:00 pm 9:00 pm 11:00 pm
Bengaluru UTC+5:30 6:30 pm 7:30 pm 9:30 pm

After 1 November 2026, every time in the table moves one hour later.

Put the overlap hours where a designer and the developer need the same screen: design review, UI acceptance and release sign-off. Code review and ticket updates can wait for the next morning.

  • Manila, 5:00 pm to 2:00 am is 09:00 to 18:00 UTC, or 5:00 am to 2:00 pm EDT. Against a 9-to-5 day that gives five hours with New York, four with Chicago and two with San Francisco.
  • Ho Chi Minh City, 3:00 pm to midnight is 08:00 to 17:00 UTC, or 4:00 am to 1:00 pm EDT: four hours with New York.
  • Bengaluru, 2:00 pm to 11:00 pm is 08:30 to 17:30 UTC, or 4:30 am to 1:30 pm EDT: four and a half hours with New York.

Late hours cost more for employees. The Philippine Labor Code sets a night shift differential of at least 10% for work between 10 pm and 6 am (Article 86), which covers four hours of the Manila shift. Vietnam adds at least 30% for work between 22:00 and 06:00 (Labor Code 2019, Articles 98 and 106). Second Talent's placements offer 4-6 hours of daily overlap with US hours.

Angular Developer Skills to Screen For

The core skill areas to screen for when hiring Angular Developers

In the 2025 Stack Overflow survey, 19.8% of professional developers used Angular, against 46.9% for React, and 7.5% still used AngularJS. With a pool that size, screen for the versions a candidate has maintained as well as the features they have built.

Signals and the OnPush default

The Angular v22.0.0 release notes state that components with an undefined changeDetection property "are now OnPush by default", and ships a migration that adds ChangeDetectionStrategy.Eager where code depends on the old behaviour. Ask the candidate to explain which components in a legacy screen would stop updating after the switch, and how signals fix it without the migration flag.

Upgrade history across the support window

Angular's release policy now gives each major version 12 months of active support and 12 months of long-term support, and lists versions 2 to 19 as unsupported. Version 22 also dropped TypeScript versions older than 6.0 and removed ComponentFactoryResolver. Ask for the oldest version the candidate has moved to current, how many majors they crossed, and what broke.

AngularJS migration

AngularJS is the name for Angular 1.x, a different framework, and its support status page says support ended in January 2022. If your product still runs it, hire for the migration: ask how the candidate would run AngularJS and Angular side by side with the upgrade module, and which screens they would port first.

Server-side rendering security

GitHub's advisory database published CVE-2026-69149 on 3 August 2026: a cross-site scripting flaw in @angular/platform-server, rated 8.6 under CVSS 4. Patches shipped in 22.0.7, 21.2.19 and 20.3.27, and the advisory lists no patched release for 19.2.25 and earlier. A senior candidate running SSR should know which patch line your app is on and how fast they could move it.

Testing after Karma

New Angular CLI projects test with Vitest by default, and Karma remains supported for older suites, per Angular's testing guide. The switch came with version 21, released 19 November 2025, which also made applications zoneless by default. Ask the candidate to convert one of your specs and explain what changed in how the test waits for the component to settle.

RxJS, NgRx and HTTP state

Signals did not remove RxJS from real applications: HTTP calls, WebSocket feeds and NgRx effects still run on observables. Give the candidate a search box that fires a request per keystroke and ask for the operator chain that cancels stale requests and handles an error without killing the stream.

Contractor or Employer of Record for a US Company

Software does not appear among the nine categories of commissioned work that 17 U.S.C. § 101 allows to be "work made for hire". Components an independent contractor writes stay theirs until they transfer the copyright, and § 204(a) requires that transfer in writing, signed. Put the assignment in the contract before the first merge request.

IRS Publication 515 says the place where services are performed determines the source of the income. An Angular developer working from Ho Chi Minh City earns foreign-source income, and gives the payer Form W-8BEN to certify foreign status.

The developer's own country runs its own employment test. Under Article 13 of Vietnam's 2019 Labor Code, an agreement under another name that covers a paid job, wages and one party's management and supervision counts as a labor contract. A developer who takes tickets from your board and joins your sprint reviews fits that wording.

Independent contractor Employer of Record (EOR)
Legal employer None; the developer invoices you The EOR's local entity
US paperwork Form W-8BEN from the developer Service agreement with the EOR
IP Written assignment signed by the developer Assignment terms in the employment contract and your EOR agreement
Local labor law Classification risk if the work looks like employment Night premiums, public holidays and leave apply
Pay currency Agreed in the contract In Vietnam, contract wages are stated in dong (Article 95)

A fixed-scope Angular upgrade suits a contractor agreement. A full-time developer inside your release cycle is the case our EOR service covers, and the Vietnam EOR page lists the employer contributions to budget for. This is a summary, not legal advice.

English Level and Working Norms

Indonesia's IT workers score 523 on the EF English Proficiency Index 2025, 52 points above the national 471. That gap matters for Angular hiring because Indonesia is also the cheapest market in the cost table.

Country EF EPI 2025 score World rank (of 123) IT job-function score
Malaysia 581 24 590
Philippines 569 28 581
Vietnam 500 64 500
India 484 74 487
Indonesia 471 80 523

Scores come from EF's country pages for Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, India and Indonesia. The global average is 488.

Front-end developers write for two audiences: engineers reading the pull request and designers reading the screenshot notes. Ask for both in the assessment, in English, without a call to explain them.

Plan the calendar in both directions. Thanksgiving, 26 November 2026, is a working day in Asia, so agree in advance who reviews and merges the Asia team's pull requests that day. Vietnam's Labor Code gives five paid days for Lunar New Year (Article 112), so keep a major Angular upgrade out of that window with a Vietnam-based team.

Angular Developer Hiring Process

The stages of a Angular Developer hiring process

Second Talent's vetting covers stages 2 to 5 before you see a profile. Our Angular interview guide has question sets you can reuse in your own final round.

Stage 1: Define what the hire owns Write down the Angular major version in production, whether the app uses SSR, which state library it runs, and whether any AngularJS remains. A greenfield signals app and a version 16 upgrade project need different people.

Stage 2: Application review Look for a shipped Angular application with its version history: the release the candidate started on, the one they left it on, and the size of the component tree. Ask who owned upgrades.

Stage 3: Skills assessment Set a small feature on a component that relies on default change detection, with a stale-request bug in the service layer. Score whether the candidate spots the OnPush impact and fixes the RxJS chain, and read the pull request description.

Stage 4: Live technical interview with a senior engineer Walk through the assessment, then open a real advisory such as CVE-2026-69149 and ask how the candidate would confirm exposure and patch a version 20 app. Finish with an upgrade plan from version 19 to 22.

Stage 5: Background and reference checks Ask former managers about upgrade work delivered on time, written handoffs across time zones, and how the candidate handled design feedback. Sign the contract with the IP assignment in place.
