TL;DR: Anthropic's annualized revenue from Claude passed $65 billion at the end of July 2026, up from $9 billion at the end of 2025. It raised $65 billion at a $965 billion valuation in May, and 43.5% of US businesses now pay for Anthropic, more than pay for OpenAI.

Claude Code, launched in May 2025, was writing 4% of all public GitHub commits worldwide by February 2026, double the share a month earlier. The coding agent alone had passed $2.5 billion in run-rate revenue by then.

Key takeaways
  1. 1More than 1,000 customers spend over $1 million a year on Claude, double February’s count.
  2. 2Anthropic takes 40% of enterprise LLM spend and 54% of enterprise coding spend, according to Menlo Ventures.
  3. 3Claude reached 20 million app downloads in April, ninth among all apps worldwide.
  4. 445% of professional developers have worked with Claude Sonnet, second only to OpenAI’s GPT models.

How Much Revenue Does Claude Make?

About $65 billion a year at its end-of-July run rate, according to Bloomberg and the Financial Times, as reported by TechCrunch. Investors expect the company to finish 2026 between $100 billion and $120 billion, the FT reported.

The climb has been steep even by AI standards. CEO Dario Amodei said in May that the company had planned for 10x growth a year and “saw 80x” instead, according to VentureBeat:

Bar chart of Anthropic's annualized run-rate revenue: $1 billion in December 2024, $5 billion in August 2025, $9 billion in December 2025, $14 billion in February 2026, $30 billion in April 2026, $47 billion in May 2026 and $65 billion in July 2026.

Claude Code is the fastest-growing piece. It passed $500 million in run-rate revenue in August 2025, three months after launch, and more than $2.5 billion by February 2026, when Anthropic said its weekly users had doubled since January 1 and its business subscriptions had quadrupled.

By April 6, Anthropic put the count of customers spending more than $1 million a year above 1,000, double the February figure in under two months. More than half of Claude Code’s revenue comes from enterprises.

How Many People Use Claude?

Anthropic does not publish a monthly active user count, so the best measures come from app trackers. Appfigures estimates Claude had 20 million downloads worldwide in April 2026, its first month in the global top 10, at ninth.

Column chart of worldwide AI assistant app downloads in April 2026, from Appfigures estimates: ChatGPT 53 million, Gemini 32 million, Claude 20 million.

On Apple’s App Store alone, ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude were the three most downloaded apps that month, with Claude at 10.9 million against 15.5 million for ChatGPT.

Sensor Tower’s State of AI 2026 report measures engagement rather than downloads. Claude’s audience was up 452% on a year earlier in May, and its US market share on Sensor Tower’s audience measure rose from 4.4% to nearly 14%. Time spent per user grew from 40 to 120 minutes a month in the first half of 2026.

On user counts. Figures of 200 million or more monthly Claude users circulate online, but Anthropic has not confirmed any of them. We quote trackers that state their method.

Web traffic tells a similar story. Claude.ai drew 950.2 million visits in August 2026, Similarweb estimates, against 5.6 billion for chatgpt.com. Visitors from the United States made up 24.4% of that traffic and India 10.9%, with the UK, Japan and France next.

Early March was a turning point. Sensor Tower found Claude recorded more daily downloads than ChatGPT from March 1 to 5, 2026, and Anthropic raised its generative AI advertising spend by 1,184% year on year in the first quarter.

How Many Businesses Use Claude?

More than use OpenAI, on card-spend data. In Ramp’s AI Index, 43.5% of US businesses paid for Anthropic subscriptions or tokens in July 2026, against 39.7% for OpenAI.

Ramp, May 2026 report
  • Anthropic 34.4% of businesses
  • OpenAI 32.3%
  • First month Anthropic led, up from 9% a year earlier
Ramp, August 2026 report
  • Anthropic 43.5% of businesses
  • OpenAI 39.7%
  • OpenAI grew faster in the third quarter so far

Ramp’s index covers more than 50,000 companies, as TechCrunch reported when Anthropic first took the lead. Businesses still buy the cheaper models: one month after launch, Fable 5 made up only 6% of the tokens businesses bought from Anthropic.

Measured by spend rather than head count, the lead is wider. Menlo Ventures found Anthropic earned 40% of enterprise LLM spend in 2025, up from 24% in 2024 and 12% in 2023:

Slope chart of enterprise LLM API spend share from 2023 to 2025, from Menlo Ventures: Anthropic rose from 12% to 40%, OpenAI fell from 50% to 27%, Google rose from 7% to 21%.

Coding drives that lead. Menlo puts Anthropic’s share of enterprise coding spend at 54%, up from 42% six months earlier, against 21% for OpenAI, in a category worth $4 billion in 2025. Anthropic reported more than 300,000 business customers in September 2025, and by April 2026 more than 100,000 customers ran Claude through Amazon Bedrock alone.

How Much Is Anthropic Worth?

$965 billion after its latest round. Anthropic raised $65 billion in a Series H on May 28, 2026, led by Altimeter, Dragoneer, Greenoaks and Sequoia, with Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron among the backers. The valuation rose almost 16-fold in 15 months:

Proportional circles of Anthropic's post-money valuation by funding round: Series E in March 2025 $61.5 billion, Series F in September 2025 $183 billion, Series G in February 2026 $380 billion, Series H in May 2026 $965 billion.

The earlier rounds were a $3.5 billion Series E in March 2025, a $13 billion Series F in September 2025 and a $30 billion Series G, led by GIC and Coatue, in February 2026.

A listing is next. Anthropic, PBC confidentially submitted a draft S-1 to the US Securities and Exchange Commission on June 1, 2026. TechCrunch reports it could list as soon as this fall, at a public valuation of $2 trillion or more.

How Much Is Anthropic Spending on Compute?

More than $100 billion with Amazon alone. In an April 2026 deal, Anthropic committed that sum to AWS over ten years in return for up to 5 gigawatts of capacity, and Amazon invested another $5 billion, with up to $20 billion more to follow. Anthropic says it already runs Claude on more than one million of Amazon’s Trainium2 chips.

The Amazon agreement is one of five large compute deals Anthropic has signed since November 2025:

PartnerAnnouncedDeal
Microsoft and NvidiaNov 2025$30 billion of Azure compute; Nvidia to invest up to $10 billion and Microsoft up to $5 billion
AmazonApr 2026Up to 5 GW; more than $100 billion on AWS over ten years
Google and BroadcomApr 2026Multiple gigawatts of TPU capacity from 2027
AMDJul 2026Up to 2 GW of Instinct MI450 GPUs from 2027; AMD to invest up to $5 billion
NscaleAug 2026About $45 billion over six years for Nvidia Vera Rubin capacity in West Virginia
Sources: Anthropic, AMD and TechCrunch announcements.

The Microsoft and Nvidia agreement came a week after Anthropic pledged $50 billion for its own US data centers. AMD’s first gigawatt starts deploying in the first half of 2027, and the Nscale capacity comes online in late 2027, so most of this spending has yet to reach Claude’s users.

Who Uses Claude, and for What?

Coding is still the biggest use. Tasks linked to computer and mathematical jobs made up 35% of Claude.ai conversations in February 2026, according to Anthropic’s Economic Index. Personal use rose from 35% to 42% of conversations between November and February, while coursework fell from 19% to 12%.

Businesses hand over more of the work. In November 2025 data, about three-quarters of API traffic was automation, where Claude completes a task with little back-and-forth, against 45% of Claude.ai conversations, the January report found. The US, India, Japan, the UK and South Korea led in total use.

Claude’s users report clear gains. In Anthropic’s June 2026 survey of about 9,700 Claude users, 86% said AI saved them time and 68% said they learned more with it. Only 10% rated losing their own job as likely.

Developers reach for Claude after ChatGPT. In our analysis of Stack Overflow’s 2025 survey data, 45.4% of professional developers who answered had worked with Claude Sonnet in the past year:

Dot plot of AI models professional developers worked with in the past year, from Stack Overflow 2025 survey data: OpenAI GPT models 82.7%, Claude Sonnet 45.4%, Gemini Flash 34.7%, OpenAI reasoning models 34.5%, Gemini Pro 25.6%, DeepSeek reasoning models 22.1%, Meta Llama 17.7%, xAI Grok 10.4%.
