TL;DR: Nuxt developers in Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam earn $1,200 to $5,500 a month working for foreign companies, against a US median of $11,330 a month for software developers. Second Talent shortlists 6-8 Nuxt candidates within 24 hours, screened on Nuxt 4, server routes and caching rules.
Nuxt 3 reached end-of-life on 31 July 2026, and Nuxt 4.5 moved the framework onto Vite 8. If your product still runs Nuxt 3, your next Nuxt hire starts with an upgrade, so test for one.
Key takeaways
No market publishes separate pay data for Nuxt. Nuxt developers are paid as Vue developers, so the ranges below come from our Vue.js rate cards. Expect candidates with Nuxt 4 and server rendering experience to sit in the upper half of each range.
| Market | Monthly pay working for international clients (USD) |
|---|---|
| Indonesia | $1,200-$4,500 |
| Philippines | $1,500-$4,500 |
| Vietnam | $1,800-$5,500 |
Monthly ranges are the Remote (Working for International Clients) figures on our Vue.js rate cards for Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam. They are what developers earn before any employer or platform costs.
Second Talent bills a Nuxt developer as one monthly fee that covers salary, payroll taxes, statutory contributions and our service fee. Our pricing page sets out the subscription and direct-hire options. For freelance rates, our Vue.js cost-to-hire page puts a mid-level US contract Vue developer at $89 to $140 an hour.
BLS publishes no framework-level job titles. A Nuxt developer who builds product features maps to Software Developers (15-1252). One who mainly builds marketing sites, documentation and content pages maps closer to Web Developers (15-1254).
| BLS OEWS, May 2025, national | Software Developers (15-1252) | Web Developers (15-1254) |
|---|---|---|
| Median annual | $135,980 | $92,650 |
| 25th percentile, monthly | $8,770 | $5,350 |
| Median, monthly | $11,330 | $7,720 |
| 75th percentile, monthly | $14,330 | $10,520 |
Monthly figures are the annual wages on the BLS OEWS profiles for 15-1252 and 15-1254 divided by 12, rounded to the nearest $10. In the BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation release for June 2026, benefits made up 31.5% of employer compensation costs for full-time private industry workers, so salary understates the US cost.
Most Nuxt bugs that reach users happen where the Vue app meets the server: what runs where, what gets cached, and which secrets reach the browser. Screen for those first. Component skills matter, but they are what a strong Vue developer already has.
The Nuxt 4.5 release notes state that "Nuxt 3 reaches end-of-life on July 31, 2026". The same release moved Nuxt onto Vite 8 and tightened useHead typing through unhead v3, where promise input is no longer supported. The upgrade path is npx nuxt upgrade --dedupe, and teams can already test Nuxt 5 behavior with future.compatibilityVersion: 5.
Ask the candidate how they ran their last Nuxt major upgrade. Good answers name the custom Vite plugins they had to check, the modules that pinned an old version and how they found type errors before release. Weak answers describe running the command and fixing what broke in production.
Nuxt renders on the server by default and hydrates in the browser. The rendering guide adds client-side rendering with ssr: false and hybrid rendering, where route rules set different behavior per route.
| Route rule | What it does | Where it goes wrong |
|---|---|---|
prerender |
Builds the route as static HTML at build time | Stale prices or stock on pages that change daily |
swr |
Caches on the server or proxy and regenerates in the background | Personalized pages cached for every visitor |
isr |
Like swr, but also caches on the CDN where supported |
Content held until the next deploy when set to true |
ssr: false |
Renders that section only in the browser | Pages that need search traffic lose server HTML |
redirect, headers, cors |
Redirects and response headers per route | Rules that differ between local dev and the host |
The guide notes that isr uses native platform rules on Netlify and Vercel, and that hybrid rendering is not available with nuxt generate. Routes using isr or swr also write _payload.json files. Nuxt's July 2026 security release included an advisory where those cached payloads could reach a different user on apps that cache authenticated pages. Give the candidate a route map with a pricing page, a blog, a dashboard and an account page, and ask them to write the route rules. Score whether they keep authenticated routes out of every cache.
Nuxt ships its own server, Nitro. Files under server/api/ become API endpoints that deploy with the app. That means your Nuxt developer writes backend code: input validation, authentication checks, calls to your database or third-party APIs, and error handling.
Secrets are the first test. In Nuxt's runtime config, keys under public are exposed to the browser, the rest stay on the server, and NUXT_ environment variables override them at runtime. A candidate who puts a payment or AI API key under public will ship it to every visitor. Ask them to add one server route that calls a third-party API with a private key, then explain where that code runs once deployed.
The second test is authorization. Another July 2026 advisory, CVE-2026-71315, let mixed-case paths skip route-rule middleware. Ask where the candidate puts an authorization check: in route middleware only, or again inside the server route that returns the data. The second answer is the safe one.
Nuxt's data fetching guide warns that calling $fetch directly in a component's setup can fetch the same data twice, once on the server and again during hydration. useFetch and useAsyncData pass the server result to the browser in the payload, and calls that share a key share the same data, error and status refs. Nuxt 4.5 added an enabled option to both, so fetching can wait on a reactive condition.
Show the candidate a page that calls $fetch in setup and two components that reuse one key for different data. Score whether they spot both problems and fix them without adding a global store.
Many Nuxt products are content sites: docs, blogs, marketing pages and help centers. Nuxt Content v3 moved to SQL-based storage in production, with collections defined in content.config.ts and typed queries. A candidate who last used Content v2 will need to relearn the query layer, so ask which version they shipped.
When NuxtLabs joined Vercel in July 2025, Vercel said Nuxt UI Pro, Nuxt Studio MDC and NuxtHub Admin would become free and open source. Many teams now build admin panels on Nuxt UI instead of a separate component library. Also ask about the modules your product depends on, such as i18n, image optimization or authentication, and what the candidate did when a module lagged behind a Nuxt release.
We screen every Nuxt developer on AI-native tooling such as Claude Code and Cursor. Agents write Nuxt pages, composables and server routes quickly. The skill we test is review: can the developer spot a secret placed under public, a cached authenticated route or a $fetch call that runs twice in agent-written code, before it ships?
A broken cache rule or a failed deploy shows up first in your US traffic, so the hours worth buying are the ones around your release. Asian cities keep one offset all year, and US daylight time runs from 8 March to 1 November 2026, per NIST.
| Engineer's city | UTC offset | 9:00 am ET (EDT) | 9:00 am CT (CDT) | 9:00 am PT (PDT) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Manila, Kuala Lumpur | UTC+8 | 9:00 pm | 10:00 pm | 12:00 midnight |
| Ho Chi Minh City, Jakarta | UTC+7 | 8:00 pm | 9:00 pm | 11:00 pm |
After 1 November 2026, every time in the table moves one hour later.
Keep component work and code review in the Asian afternoon, and put release checks and design sign-off in the shared hours. Night work has a cost: the Philippine Labor Code sets a night shift differential of at least 10% between 10 pm and 6 am (Article 86), and Vietnam's Labor Code adds at least 30% for night work. We agree the schedule before the offer, which is how our placements get 4-6 hours of daily overlap with US hours.
Software is not one of the categories of commissioned work that can be "work made for hire" under 17 U.S.C. § 101. Pages, composables, server routes and Nuxt modules a contractor writes for you stay theirs until transferred, and § 204(a) requires that transfer in writing, signed.
| Independent contractor | Employer of Record | |
|---|---|---|
| Legal employer | None; the developer invoices you | The EOR's local entity |
| US paperwork | Form W-8BEN from the developer | Service agreement with the EOR |
| IP | Written assignment covering pages, server routes and modules | Assignment in the employment contract and your EOR agreement |
| Local labor law | Classification risk if you set hours and assign daily tickets | Night premiums, public holidays and leave apply |
| Best fit | A fixed-scope Nuxt 3 to Nuxt 4 upgrade | A developer who joins your sprints and owns the front end |
A developer who works your hours and takes daily direction looks like an employee under local tests, such as the Philippine four-fold test or Article 13 of Vietnam's 2019 Labor Code. Our Employer of Record service employs that developer in-country for you. This is a summary, not legal advice.
The Philippines scores 569 on the EF English Proficiency Index 2025, 28th of 123, with an IT job-function score of 581. Vietnam scores 500 and Indonesia 471, but Indonesian IT workers score 523, above their national figure. Test the writing your team will read: ask finalists for the pull request description of their assessment and a short upgrade note a US product manager could follow.
Plan releases around both calendars. Thanksgiving on 26 November 2026 is a working day in Asia, so a developer there can watch a deploy while your US team is off. Avoid shipping a Nuxt major upgrade during Lunar New Year week with a Vietnam-based developer.
Second Talent's vetting covers stages 2 to 5 before you see a profile. Our Vue.js interview guide has question sets for your own final round.
Stage 1: Define what the hire owns Write down your Nuxt version, the rendering mode per route, where you deploy, which modules you depend on and which server routes exist. An upgrade hire, a content-site hire and a product-app hire need different tests.
Stage 2: Application review We look for Nuxt code the candidate shipped and maintained: a Nuxt 4 upgrade, a site with real traffic, server routes that call a database or payment provider, and caching rules they wrote.
Stage 3: Skills assessment
The candidate fixes a small Nuxt app with three planted problems: a private key under public runtime config, a $fetch call in setup, and an account page caught by an swr rule. Then they add one server route with input validation and one Vitest test.
Stage 4: Live technical interview with a senior engineer A senior engineer reviews the assessment, then asks the candidate to plan route rules for your product and explain where each authorization check lives.
Stage 5: Background and reference checks We ask former managers about upgrades the candidate finished, incidents after release and how they worked with designers and backend engineers. You then choose the contractor or EOR route above.
We shortlist 6-8 candidates within 24 hours from 100,000+ pre-vetted engineers, accepting only the top 1% of applicants. Nuxt developers come with $0 upfront, no lock-in, a 90-day replacement guarantee and 4-6 hours of daily overlap with US hours. We handle contracts, payroll and equipment, with compliant EOR contracts and payroll in 9 Asian markets.
If your app is plain Vue without server rendering, see our Vue developers page. For a wider front-end stack we also staff TypeScript developers and front-end developers.
