BairesDev Alternatives Compared [Oct, 2026]

By Eric Cheng, Head of International Business 11 min read
BairesDev alternatives for US startups, a Second Talent comparison
TL;DR: For the same Latin America model with a published cost calculator, look at Revelo. For freelance experts within 24 hours, Toptal. For a fixed full-time hiring fee, Arc.dev. For a fast senior shortlist, Lemon.io. For enterprise AI programs, Andela. For full-time AI-native engineers at a published $23 to $39 USD/hr, billed monthly, Second Talent hires from nine Asian markets.

BairesDev is one of the largest nearshore vendors selling to US companies.

It says it has 4,000+ engineers across more than 20 Latin American countries, has worked with 1,450+ companies since 2009 and hires fewer than 1% of the 2.5 million people who apply each year.

Harvard Business School published a 2025 case on its culture and growth.

Startups usually look elsewhere for one of three reasons: BairesDev publishes no rates, it sells through a discovery call built around teams, and it says teams take two to four weeks to start.

With the US median software developer wage at $135,980 in May 2025, the price gap between vendors matters as much as the time zone.

Key takeaways
  1. 1Decide whether you are buying one engineer or a managed team. BairesDev sells both; most alternatives here are built for one hire at a time.
  2. 2Only Second Talent, Arc.dev and Revelo show a price before the first call. Everyone else quotes.
  3. 3Latin America gives full US overlap; Asia gives 4 to 6 hours of it at a lower rate. Choose by how much of the day needs live collaboration.
  4. 4Read the trial and replacement terms before price: they range from two weeks to three months.

1. Revelo

Revelo homepage, 2026
400,000+ vetted Latin American engineers72-hour shortlist2-week risk-free trial

Revelo is the closest like-for-like swap for BairesDev’s staff augmentation: senior engineers in Latin America who work US hours, with payroll, benefits and local compliance handled for you.

The difference is that Revelo sells individual hires rather than pods, and it shows numbers before you talk to anyone.

Its pricing page runs a calculator against a fully loaded US hire. For an elite senior full-stack engineer it shows $134,000 a year all-in through Revelo against $327,986 for the US equivalent.

Revelo says only the top 2% of its 400,000+ engineers pass technical, English and soft-skills screening, and that a curated shortlist of three to five arrives in 72 hours.

The commercial terms are startup-friendly: no upfront fees, month-to-month billing, cancel anytime, and a two-week trial where you pay only if you are happy.

After the hire, Revelo runs local payroll in local currencies, equipment, benefits and quarterly retention check-ins. Its homepage now also leads with code data for frontier AI labs, so ask which team will own your account.

Compare it with its sibling in our Revelo alternatives list, or against Toptal in Revelo vs Toptal.

  • Best for: Teams that want BairesDev’s time zone with individual hires and visible pricing.
  • Watch out: The calculator rate is for its elite tier; average and strong tiers cost less.
  • Published price: Calculator rates by role and tier, month-to-month, no upfront fee.

2. Toptal

Toptal homepage, 2026
$79 monthly subscriptionCandidates in 24 hours100+ countries

Toptal is where “toptal vs bairesdev” searches usually end up, and the two solve different problems.

BairesDev builds a team in your time zone over two to four weeks; Toptal introduces individual freelance experts, in almost all cases within 24 hours, from a network it describes as the top 3% of freelance talent in over 100 countries.

Its FAQ sets out the terms. Clients pay a flat $79 monthly subscription on top of each expert’s rate, every engagement starts with a trial period of up to two weeks, and invoices go out twice a month on Net 10 terms.

Toptal says 90% of its clients hire the first candidate it introduces.

Rates are agreed per engagement and are not published, so you cannot compare a Toptal quote with a BairesDev quote until both are in hand.

Because the network spans more than 100 countries, time-zone overlap is something to confirm per candidate rather than a promise of the model.

Toptal fits short, high-stakes work: an architecture review, a migration, or a senior specialist for three months. For more options, see our Toptal alternatives page.

  • Best for: A senior specialist needed this week for a defined project.
  • Watch out: Hourly rates are not published, and overlap depends on the individual.
  • Published price: $79 a month subscription plus the agreed expert rate.

3. Second Talent

Second Talent homepage: hire AI-native engineers from Asia, 2026
$23 to $39 USD/hr, billed monthly24 hours to get matched90-day replacement guarantee

Second Talent helps US startups hire vetted AI-Native Engineers and Specialists from Asia.

Where BairesDev quotes a team after a discovery call, Second Talent publishes its price: $23 to $39 USD/hr, billed monthly, which is $3,599 to $5,999 for 160 hours, all-in, with no cost until you hire.

Engineers come from nine Asian markets, including Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. They work full-time on your team, and employment, payroll and tax run through Second Talent’s own employer of record.

Vetting has four stages: a technical assessment, an AI-native tooling round where candidates build with Claude Code and Cursor, English at C1 or above, and a behavioral interview.

You can search the vetted bench yourself in the Second Talent platform or brief a recruiter and get a matched shortlist within 24 hours. If a hire does not work out, the 90-day, one-time replacement guarantee covers a replacement.

Second Talent reports 92% talent retention across 200+ teams.

The honest trade-off against BairesDev is the clock. Latin America sits inside US hours; Asia gives 4 to 6 hours of US overlap, which suits async teams with a daily standup more than pair programming all day. See pricing or how it works.

  • Best for: Startups adding one to five full-time engineers who use AI coding tools daily.
  • Watch out: 4 to 6 hours of US overlap, not a full day.
  • Published price: $23 to $39 USD/hr, billed monthly, with no placement fee.

4. Arc.dev

Arc.dev homepage, 2026
$15 to $110+ an hour freelance20% of salary full-time3-month free re-match

Arc.dev suits startups that want to own the hire rather than rent capacity from a vendor.

It is the only alternative here with both models priced on its own pricing page: freelancers at $15 to $110+ an hour, and full-time hires at a one-time fee of 20% of the annual salary.

Its homepage claims a pool of 450,000 in 190 countries, a top 2% pass rate after vetting and hiring in 72 hours. Candidates set their expected annual salary, and you discuss requirements with Arc before matching.

Domain skills are checked in a one-hour expert interview or pair programming session.

The risk terms are the longest on this list. There is a risk-free trial period, and during the first three months Arc will match you with another candidate free of charge if you are not satisfied. You pay nothing until you hire.

The trade-off is that a full-time Arc hire becomes your employee or contractor to manage, with payroll and compliance on your side, unlike BairesDev, where the engineer stays on the vendor’s books.

Arc’s global pool also means overlap is set by where you hire. Our Arc.dev alternatives page has more detail.

  • Best for: Teams ready to employ engineers directly and pay one fee instead of a monthly markup.
  • Watch out: Payroll, benefits and compliance stay with you after the hire.
  • Published price: $15 to $110+ an hour freelance, or 20% of annual salary full-time.

5. Lemon.io

Lemon.io homepage, 2026
1.2% acceptance rate160-hour minimumInterviews this week

Lemon.io is the pick when speed to a senior interview matters more than headcount.

Its pitch is that you only show up to interview two to three engineers who already passed its vetting, start to finish in under a week, against the three to six weeks it says most hiring managers wait for a first qualified interview.

Lemon.io lists a 1.2% acceptance rate and says its sourcing maps passive talent across North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia, with hires drawn from Europe, Latin America, the US and Canada.

That mix gives US teams a choice between Latin American overlap and European seniority, which BairesDev’s Latin America-only bench does not.

Billing is a prepaid subscription for the developer’s working hours, with a minimum of 160 hours and no upfront recruitment or setup fees.

Lemon.io does not publish hourly rates on the page; it points to a rate calculator instead, so get a written quote for your stack before comparing it with BairesDev.

It works best for one to three senior hires rather than a delivery team with a project manager. More options are in our Lemon.io alternatives list.

  • Best for: Startups that need one senior engineer interviewing this week.
  • Watch out: 160 prepaid hours is the minimum, so short tasks do not fit.
  • Published price: Quoted by rate calculator; no upfront or setup fee.

6. Andela

Andela homepage, 2026
Enterprise AI programsAugment or managed teamQuote only

Andela is the alternative for companies that like BairesDev’s managed-team model but need it at enterprise scale across several regions.

Its client quotes describe blended teams from Europe, Kenya, Brazil, India and North America, so it can staff around the clock where BairesDev stays in Latin America.

The company now positions itself as the human compute layer behind production AI.

It sells three things: AI-native engineers deployed into your systems, AI system development (data readiness, model alignment, retrieval and agentic deployment), and training for your own engineers in LLM engineering and LLMOps.

You can augment an existing team with individual engineers or hand a workstream to a fully managed team.

Andela says it releases cohorts of AI engineers each quarter, trained and assessed to build and run production AI systems.

That makes it a fit for a company standing up RAG or agent work across several business units, and a heavy one for a seed-stage startup that needs one full-stack developer.

Pricing is not published: the pricing link routes to a discovery call. Expect an enterprise sales cycle similar to BairesDev’s. Our Andela alternatives page compares it with smaller vendors.

  • Best for: Enterprises running AI programs that need engineers and training from one vendor.
  • Watch out: No public pricing and an enterprise-sized sales process.
  • Published price: Quoted after a discovery call.
How we checked. Prices, pass rates and terms come from each company’s own homepage, pricing page and FAQ, read on October 24, 2026. BairesDev’s site blocks automated visits, so its figures come from its homepage and staff augmentation page as captured by the Internet Archive on October 15 and 23, 2026. We did not run paid trials.

How BairesDev engages, and what you are replacing

BairesDev sells three models. Staff augmentation adds engineers who join your standups and follow your workflow while your leads manage delivery. Dedicated teams are pods led by BairesDev’s technical project managers.

Software outsourcing hands over the whole project lifecycle.

All three start with a discovery call, and BairesDev says it typically stands up teams in two weeks, up to four for larger ones. Most alternatives above replace the first model only.

If you rely on BairesDev’s project managers or full outsourcing, Andela is the nearest match; for staff augmentation, any of the six fit.

Latin America or Asia: the time-zone question

BairesDev’s strongest argument is the clock: its engineers are mostly in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico and work US hours. Revelo and Lemon.io offer the same.

Engineers in Asia give 4 to 6 hours of overlap with US time zones, which works for teams that run a daily standup and review asynchronously.

If your team pair-programs all day, pay for Latin America; if your engineers ship with AI agents and need a few hours of shared time, Asia costs less for the same seniority.
